Chevrolet and Crotty Chevrolet Buick offer pickup with most awards in the industry

Since its launch in mid-2013, the Chevrolet Silverado has been impressing Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown, NY arearesidents and the critics alike. So much so, that fans and critics alike have given the 2014 Silverado more awards than any other pickup truck in the industry.

Both light- and heavy-duty models have taken no less than 14 awards for 2014, including the prestigious North American Truck of the Year Award presented by the North American International Auto Show.

More importantly – and possibly even more impressive – is the amount of awards that were awarded to Silverado as a direct result of the interest and admiration of potential Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown, NY buyers. These include the Most Popular Vehicle award, which is given to the vehicle in each segment whose research pages are visited the most by visitors.

Probably most impactful to Crotty Chevrolet Buick’s customers, and their wallets, is the various awards given to the Silverado for its low cost of ownership. Kelley Blue Book named the Silverado 1500 in the top ten vehicles in its Best Resale Value Awards across all segments, and the Silverado contributed to Vincentric naming Chevrolet the Best Value Truck Brand in America.

These awards are largely due to Silverado’s innovative technologies tailored to the way customers use full-size pickups, providing the power, efficiency, refinement and dependability they expect from their trucks, such as:

  • EcoTec3 engines that provide class-leading V-8 fuel efficiency and towing capability, without the cost and complexity of turbocharging
  • High-strength steel that makes the frames and cabs stronger and lighter, yet can take the pounding of towing, hauling and off-road operation, year after year
  • The strategic use of aluminum alloys to reduce the weight of engines, front suspension components, hoods and other parts
  • New interiors featuring ample storage, multiple power and USB connections and available high-wear cloth for bench or bucket seats
  • Chevrolet MyLink, which provides powerful connectivity for work or family with simple, intuitive controls.

Chevrolet Silverado Named Lowest Cost to Own Pickup

Award contributes to Chevrolet being named Best Value Truck Brand

Chevrolet has been named the Best Value Truck Brand in America, according to data analysis firm Vincentric. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD also won the Vincentric Best Value in America award, and the Silverado family of full-size pickups boasts the lowest cost to own in this segment. The national recognition means something for local drivers, as well. Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY-area residents may be happy to discover that they could save money over the long run by owning a Silverado.

“The average truck should be able to stand the test of time for more than a decade,” said Robert Crotty at Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The Vicentric award affirms to truck lovers in the Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY area that the Silverado provides customers with the expected reliability that should come with a vehicle of this caliber.”

Vincentric analyzes a vehicle’s cost-of-ownership through eight different measures: depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost and repairs. Vincentric awards the Best Value in America Award using an analysis comparing ownership costs to a vehicle’s market price.

Silverado is the most dependable, longest lasting pickup on the road. It offers the best pickup coverage in America, including 2-year/24,000 mile recommended scheduled maintenance and a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.

Corvette training drives high-performance sales

By Eric Tichy

COLUMBUS TOWNSHIP — Shane Crotty, a sales consultant at Crotty Chevrolet Buick in Columbus Township, said it was an obvious choice when asked if he would take a work trip to Nevada.

Crotty, who has been helping out at the Route 6 family business since he was 14 years old, traveled in January to the Corvette Stingray Dealer Sales Academy at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nev., about an hour west of Las Vegas. The ranch is dubbed the country club for car fanatics.

Crotty said in order to sell the high-performance vehicle, a representative from the dealership had to take a two-day training session at the academy, which included classroom work and in-car driving.

“Every dealership that wants to sell the Corvette Stingray had to send someone,” Crotty said, noting that the dealership also had to designate Stingray specialists from the sales and service departments. “They told me someone had to go out to Nevada, and I said ‘Count me in,’” Crotty said.

According to Chevrolet, 900 dealerships across the country met qualifications to sell the Stingray when it became available over the summer. In order to qualify, the dealership had to sell a certain number of Corvettes. In addition to taking the $2,000 training class in Nevada, service personnel must undergo special training, and dealerships are required to purchase equipment specifically designed to service the cars.

“I was the lucky one picked to go to Nevada to drive the Corvette and experience the handling, performance and technology features which go into every 2014 Corvette,” Crotty said. “We got to learn all about them, too, of course.” Going through the training does have its perks. “If a customer comes in, I will be the Corvette consultant” Crotty said. “I get to inform them just how capable this performance vehicle is, the safety features, and technology Chevrolet has built into the automobile.” Crotty said while in the desert, he had the chance to drive the new model vehicle in a variety of surfaces, including a 2 1/2 mile road course and a wet figure eight course.

There appears to be a market for the high-performance car locally. Aside from selling enough Corvettes to qualify for the training, Crotty Chevrolet already has an order for the Stingray model. In fact, before Crotty even went out in January, the dealership was aware of some interest in the Stingray. “We had one new one that sold already,” Crotty said. “We’re not sure when we’re going to get our next one, but we’re hoping over the summer.” “We probably sell three or four Corvettes a year,” he continued.

Rob Crotty, who co-owns the dealership with his brother, Chop, said he is excited to be able to sell the Stingray. “We’re very happy,” Rob Crotty said. “We know that our customers are looking for these types of vehicles, so we’re happy that we were able to obtain the special training to sell them.”

Those hoping to get their hands on the 2014 Stingray will need to fork over $51,000 for a base model. The price is still far lower than other high-performance cars in its class.

“It was an experience of a lifetime,” Shane Crotty, son of Chop Crotty, said of the Corvette training. “It was something that ended up being really neat, and not a lot of people get to do it.”

Silverado’s Pick-up Box Makes Tough Jobs Easier

Back end designed with the user in mind

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Step

When it comes to pickup trucks, the usability of the back end is just as important as the power under the hood. Customer-focused innovations to the cargo box of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado were designed to make it easier to see, secure and access what’s back there.

“Silverado owners are the doers of the world,” said Lloyd Biermann, Silverado marketing manager. “Our goal when designing the Silverado’s pickup box was to create something that was stronger, more durable and versatile to help our owners get their toughest jobs done.”

“Silverado owners says they most frequently use their trucks for everyday projects” said Bill Mitchell of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Seasoned truck owners want a pickup that makes loading and securing cargo as simple as possible. Making it easier to climb into the truck bed and retrieve items is a bonus.”

“For the real truck buyer, they want a pickup that puts up with their abuse without making any compromises from the back end of the truck,” said Mark Williams of “The whole point of having a pickup is about solving problems, not creating them.”

From design to functionality, the Silverado pickup box is engineered to be the most innovative cargo box in its segment with these features:

  • LED Box Lights – Located in the cargo box, under the side rails, the available lights turn on with the standard overhead box lamp and make it easier to find cargo in the bed, even under a tonneau cover.
  • EZ Lift & Lower Tailgate – An internal torsion bar reduces the effort to raise the tailgate while a rotary damper allows for a controlled and more gradual lowering motion when opening it.
  • CornerStep Bumper – Unique steps incorporated into the corners of the rear bumper are designed to accommodate work boots and can be used with the tailgate up or down.
  • Hand Grip Pockets – Located within the rails, at the rear of the cargo box, they provide easier access into the cargo box and work in tandem with the CornerStep Bumper.
  • Removable Upper Tie-Down Hooks – Allow maximum flexibility to secure cargo of varying shapes and sizes and can be placed in several locations around the cargo box.

“Every time we get into a new Silverado and fill the bed with payload, we’re reminded just how much thought their truck engineers put into, what we believe is, the most important part of a pickup – the bed,” said Williams.

Corry-Silverado Drivers Benefit from 12.5 Million Miles of Durability Testing

2014 Silverado Durability Testing

All-new full-size pickups engineered to outlast the toughest tasks Corry-area owners can come up with

Each of the shiny new Silverados at Crotty Chevrolet Buick benefited from 12.5 million miles of durability testing before the first Corry, Warren and Erie-area customer ever received the keys.

From the scorching desert of Yuma, Ariz. to the sub-zero cold of Kapuskasing, Ontario, and the outdoor torture tests of General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground in Milford, Mich., the all-new full-size trucks completed more than 4 million miles of combined vehicle durability testing. In addition, a fleet of test vehicles racked up 8.2 million miles of real-world mileage.

Validation and durability testing pushed the trucks to their limits before they went into production in Silao, Mexico, Flint, Mich., and Fort Wayne, Ind. In many of the tests, the trucks are loaded to gross vehicle weight. While most Corry, Warren and Erie-area customers do not drive fully loaded on a regular basis, these tests ensure the Silverado can withstand even the most demanding conditions.

“The 2014 Silverado is Chevrolet’s strongest and most reliable truck yet,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The durability testing endured ensures the truck will continue to meet our owners’ needs throughout its life.”

The trucks proved their mettle by traversing the Belgian blocks, splashing though the off-road-simulating grit trough, climbing and descending a 30 percent grade and driving at high speeds.

Grit intrusion is a challenge for any Corry, Warren and Erie-area off road vehicle. The grit trough test ensures the trucks have enough sealing to protect bearings and key suspension points, while a trip along the dust road helps determine all seals are functioning properly and that dust does not contaminate the bearings or other moving parts.

Some of the key durability improvements from the previous generation trucks include:
• A frame formed from high-strength steel to ensure it will not crack, even when Corry, Warren and Erie-area drivers load them to full capacity
• New four-wheel-disc brake system with Duralife™ brake rotors offer up to double the service life, along with brake-tuning revisions that improve pedal feel for more confident braking performance on any driving surface
• Anti-chip coating on the lower body side for extra protection from stones or gravel

2014 Chevrolet Malibu: Mainstreaming Stop/Start Technology

First midsize sedan in U.S. to offer fuel-saving feature as standard

2014 Malibu Start Stop Tech

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu arriving at Crotty Chevrolet Buick in Corry, PA this fall will be the first midsize sedan sold in the U.S. to offer fuel-saving stop/start technology standard on its 2.5L base model.

The Malibu has an EPA-estimated 25 city and 36 highway mpg – a 14 percent improvement in city fuel economy – at a starting price of $22,965, including an $825 destination charge but excluding tax, title, and license and dealer fees.

“Stop/start technology helps customers conserve fuel by automatically shutting off the engine when the car comes to a stop, such as at stoplights. The engine automatically restarts when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “During engine restarts, an auxiliary 12-volt battery powers electric accessories such as heating and air conditioning, power windows and radio.”

“The key was to apply the knowledge we gained from our eAssist technology,” said Todd Pawlik, Malibu chief engineer. “By leveraging knowledge from the stop/start system we use on eAssist, we were able to significantly improve city fuel ratings by 3 mpg, or 14 percent on Malibu’s entry-level 2.5L model, compared to the 2013 model.”

Malibu’s stop/start system monitors – among other things – vehicle speed, climate control system operation and the force a driver applies to the brake pedal, to determine whether it is efficient to shut off the engine in certain driving conditions, such as stop-and-go driving.

2014 Silverado Scores a Safety First for Trucks

New Chevrolet Silverado crew cab receive first five-star scores under new rating system

2014 Silverado Score a Safety First for Trucks

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the first pickup truck to receive the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year.

NHTSA only tested the crew cab models of Silverado. Chevrolet expects crew cab models to account for 60 percent of their 2014 light duty full-size pickup truck sales.

“Our customers are looking for state-of-the-art safety when purchasing a vehicle,” said Robert Crotty, VP for Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The 2014 Silverado’s unmatched combination of safety systems, we’re confident that the 2014 Silverado will meet the needs of Northwestern Pennsylavania and Southwestern New York area drivers.”

“Safety is as important to truck buyers as it is to car buyers,” said Gay Kent, GM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “Silverado sets a benchmark for pickup truck safety by offering a full array of advanced features designed to protect occupants before, during and after a collision.”

Silverado offers a fully boxed frames, extensive use of high-strength steel, and several segment-exclusive safety features are available, including Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Safety Alert Seat.

  • Safety Alert Seat warns the driver of potential traffic danger using directional vibration pulses from the seat cushion. The patented warning approach is tied to all of the on-board crash avoidance systems.
  • Forward collision alert technology helps prevent frontal crashes by alerting the driver when the truck is closing in on a vehicle ahead too quickly, giving him or her additional time to react and avoid a crash.
  • Lane Departure Warning technology alerts the driver when the truck drifts over a lane line when traveling at least 35 mph.
  • Rear Vision Camera with Dynamic Guidelines allows the driver, when in reverse, to view objects directly behind the vehicle via the radio screen in the center stack, allowing for easier parking and backing maneuvers.
  • New, standard lap belt pretensions in the front-seat outboard safety belts.
  • Six standard air bags and 360-degree sensor system, including dual-stage frontal air bags, head-curtain side-impact air bags with rollover protection, and seat-mounted side-impact air bags.
  • Trailer-sway control that works with StabiliTrak to provide the driver with additional assistance when towing a trailer. When it senses trailer sway, it intervenes with braking and/or reduced engine power to bring the trailer under control.
  • Four-wheel, four-channel, antilock disc brakes (ABS) that help provide straight, more controlled stops by preventing wheel lock-up in most road conditions.
  • OnStar is available, using GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in the event of crash. OnStar service also includes MyLink mobile apps, which offer vehicle information and OnStar services via the customer’s smartphone.
