The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan, available at Crotty Chevrolet Buick, has received the highest possible 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

“Safety is important to Corry, Erie, Warren, and Jamestown, NY-area drivers,” said Bill Mitchell of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “This designation by NHTSA confirms that the 2014 Malibu delivers top safety performance.”

Safety technologies featured on the Malibu include an ultra-high-strength steel safety cage, rollover protection and 10 standard airbags including knee airbags for both driver and front passenger.

In addition to these passive safety features, several other available active safety technologies, such as Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, can assist Corry, Erie, Warren, and Jamestown, NY-area drivers in avoiding a collision. Side Blind Zone Alert uses sensors to warn drivers of vehicles entering their blind spot on either side. The pairing of Rear Cross Traffic Alert, new to Malibu for 2014, and rear vision camera can make backing out onto busy streets a less-stressful affair.

Every Malibu comes with OnStar service standard for the first six months. In the event of a collision, OnStar Advisors can contact the vehicle even if occupants cannot respond.

Malibu had its best retail sales year since 1999 last year.

Chevrolet Sweeps 2014 NACTOY Awards

Corvette Stingray, Silverado pickup represent brand’s first double win

Silverado and Stingray

The all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Silverado 1500, now available at  Crotty Chevrolet Buick are the 2014 North American Car and Truck of the Year.

It is the first time Chevrolet has won both awards in the same year. The Silverado was last named Truck of the Year in 2007 and the Corvette was last named Car of the Year in 1998.

“Chevrolet is constantly working on delivering the most eye-catching and innovative vehicles around,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Both the Corvette and Silverado represent the brand’s commitment to providing Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown-area drivers with the best.”

Presentation of the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards open media days each year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Forty-nine automotive journalists from the United States and Canada vote to recognize the most outstanding vehicles of the year based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.

The new Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque from a 6.2L V-8 engine – and 460 horsepower /465 lb-ft with the available performance exhaust system – enabling models with the available Z51 Performance Package to sprint from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.

Silverado’s available 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 generates 355 horsepower for confident towing and hauling, yet seamlessly switches to four cylinders to save fuel during light-load driving. With an EPA estimated highway fuel economy of up to 23 mpg, Silverado offers the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup.

“It is a distinct honor for the entire Chevrolet team to have both the Corvette and Silverado recognized with the prestigious North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards,” said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president, Global Chevrolet.

Kids Turn to OnStar for News on Santa’s Journey

Latest status just a Blue Button push away for area families

OnStar-SantaHat-with-NTS-Logo

Starting on Christmas Eve, Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown-area families traveling in General Motors’ vehicles with OnStar services will be able to learn Santa’s whereabouts by simply pressing the blue OnStar button in the U.S., Canada and now in Mexico.

For the fifth consecutive year, OnStar is providing the service through collaboration with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, “Track Santa” program.

From 7 a.m. on December 24 until 5 a.m. on December 25, anyone with an active OnStar subscription can request a “Santa Update,” which an OnStar advisor will provide based on NORAD information.

“The ‘Santa Seeker’ really helps spread holiday cheer,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The OnStar advisors put on their Santa hats and elf ears and wholeheartedly take advantage of the opportunity to spread such joy to the children in Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown and more.”

So how does OnStar keep up with the high volume of inquiries from these curious little callers?

While their first priority is the safety and security of their subscribers, they make adjustments in staff so that they are able to respond to the Santa calls as well as their day-to-day calls for assistance.

“For nearly 60 years, NORAD has employed the same military technology used every day for Homeland Defense mission to also track Santa during his Yuletide journey,” said Stacey Knott, NORAD Tracks Santa program manager. “We use our military satellites, radars, fighter jets and Santa Cams to tell the world Santa’s location every Christmas Eve.”

Individuals without OnStar technology can also follow Santa’s progress via the NORAD Tracks Santa website, Facebook page Twitter hashtag #NoradSanta or by calling the hotline at 1-877-HI-NORAD.

Shopping Encore: Top Tips for Holiday Shopping Season

Crotty Chevrolet Buick teams with Buick, SheFinds Media and Edmunds.com to offer advice

Buick Encore

Whether hitting the stores before dawn on Black Friday or scrambling to find that final gift on December 24, the Buick Encore offers Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea drivers a balance of parcel-packing efficiency and safe navigation of the ins-and-outs of mall parking spaces.

With the holiday shopping season starting earlier than ever, Buick and Crotty Chevrolet Buick are collaborating with Michelle Madhok, shopping expert and founder of shefinds.com; and Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at Edmunds.com and auto expert, to help consumers conquer Black Friday, and the rest of the shopping season.

“Traditionally, Black Friday is the ultimate shopping day of the year,” said Madhok. “Those who want to save money and have a positive experience should carefully think through the day and keep some simple tips in mind.”

These tips include:

  • Aim for the big-ticket items that are highly discounted, such as electronics
  • Pass on the pricey warranty or home installation package
  • Make a list and stay focused, prioritizing the most expensive items first
  • Check specialty sites that report on all the Black Friday sales – such as www.blackfriday.com and www.bfads.net.
  • Don’t waste precious shopping time circling or waiting for a choice parking spot near the mall entrance. Instead, park in aisles equidistant to several mall entrances.

Part of the battle, for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea shoppers, occurs even before the first dollar is even spent. Crowded, dark parking lots offer their own set of challenges. Krebs offers some safety tips before ever reaching the mall entrance.

“Bigger isn’t always better,” Krebs said. “Compact cars and SUVs, such as the Buick Encore, have a surprising amount of interior room and are agile and easier to park. The Encore’s petite dimensions pay dividends when it’s time to squeeze into undersized parking spaces.”

In addition, Krebs says Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea consumers should consider holiday shopping safety:

  • Use a cargo cover when possible to keep packages out of view
  • Leverage backup cameras and mirrors in crowded parking lots
  • Use hands-free devices to avoid distraction
  • Use a driver remote door unlock, especially if alone in a dark parking lot

“The Encore was made to give our customers the storage space they need, to accommodate the ins and outs of their everyday lives,” said John Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Holiday shopping is just another facet of that, and the Encore is the perfect companion for a safe and successful holiday season.”

All-New 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Redefines Midsize Trucks

  • Midsize truck with the DNA of Chevy’s full-size trucks
  • Expected to deliver class-leading horsepower, payload and trailering
  • Rounds out the industry’s only three-truck portfolio to give customers more choices

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71

Chevrolet today unveiled the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, which will redefine the midsize truck and offer real truck capability and versatility to customers who don’t require a full-size truck.

The new Colorado is built with the DNA of a true Chevy truck, expected to deliver class-leading power, payload and trailering ratings. Colorado goes on sale at Crotty Chevrolet Buick in fall 2014 as a 2015 model.

“Our strategy is simple: meet the needs of the broadest possible customer base, and let them choose precisely the right truck to meet their needs,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president and president of GM North America. “The all-new Colorado benefits from the solid foundation established by the Silverado, and it reinvents the midsize truck while reinvigorating the segment at the same time.”

The new Colorado was developed for the North American truck customer, with distinctive design, comfort and connectivity features, including segment firsts such as available forward collision alert and lane departure warning.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71

Chevrolet expects Colorado to be the most powerful truck in the segment, allowing owners to haul and tow more. A 2.5L I-4 is standard, and a 3.6L V-6 is available. Each engine is tuned, tested and validated for truck use, and each features direct injection and variable valve timing to make the most of power and efficiency. Each is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.

When properly equipped, the Colorado is expected to offer class leading payload capacity and trailering capacity of more than 6,700 pounds (3,039 kg). That is more than enough capability to throw a weekend’s worth of camping gear in the bed and tow a boat to a favorite lake.

Colorado will also offer the segment’s only diesel engine in its second year – a proven Duramax 2.8L I-4 turbodiesel already offered in global markets. The diesel engine will expand Colorado’s powertrain lineup to cover the broadest range of needs

“We designed the Colorado to be the most versatile and most capable in its segment, bar none,” said Jeff Luke, executive engineer, GM Trucks. “Not everyone needs full-size capability, but they still deserve the strength and true-truck attributes that come in larger models. The Colorado delivers capability with confidence – and a fun-to-drive spirit that complements active lifestyles.”  [Read more…]

Silverado’s Pick-up Box Makes Tough Jobs Easier

Back end designed with the user in mind

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Step

When it comes to pickup trucks, the usability of the back end is just as important as the power under the hood. Customer-focused innovations to the cargo box of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado were designed to make it easier to see, secure and access what’s back there.

“Silverado owners are the doers of the world,” said Lloyd Biermann, Silverado marketing manager. “Our goal when designing the Silverado’s pickup box was to create something that was stronger, more durable and versatile to help our owners get their toughest jobs done.”

“Silverado owners says they most frequently use their trucks for everyday projects” said Bill Mitchell of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Seasoned truck owners want a pickup that makes loading and securing cargo as simple as possible. Making it easier to climb into the truck bed and retrieve items is a bonus.”

“For the real truck buyer, they want a pickup that puts up with their abuse without making any compromises from the back end of the truck,” said Mark Williams of PickupTrucks.com. “The whole point of having a pickup is about solving problems, not creating them.”

From design to functionality, the Silverado pickup box is engineered to be the most innovative cargo box in its segment with these features:

  • LED Box Lights – Located in the cargo box, under the side rails, the available lights turn on with the standard overhead box lamp and make it easier to find cargo in the bed, even under a tonneau cover.
  • EZ Lift & Lower Tailgate – An internal torsion bar reduces the effort to raise the tailgate while a rotary damper allows for a controlled and more gradual lowering motion when opening it.
  • CornerStep Bumper – Unique steps incorporated into the corners of the rear bumper are designed to accommodate work boots and can be used with the tailgate up or down.
  • Hand Grip Pockets – Located within the rails, at the rear of the cargo box, they provide easier access into the cargo box and work in tandem with the CornerStep Bumper.
  • Removable Upper Tie-Down Hooks – Allow maximum flexibility to secure cargo of varying shapes and sizes and can be placed in several locations around the cargo box.

“Every time we get into a new Silverado and fill the bed with payload, we’re reminded just how much thought their truck engineers put into, what we believe is, the most important part of a pickup – the bed,” said Williams.

2014 Silverado Gets Lean and Mean for Corry-area Drivers

Lighter, high-strength materials help improve capability, safety and efficiency

2014 Silverado and Sierra Get Lean and Mean

Like athletes who burn fat and build muscle to become more competitive, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 strategically replaced traditional steel with lightweight, high-strength steel for improved capability, safety and fuel efficiency.

High-strength and ultra-high-strength steels make the Silverado’s fully boxed frame and cab lighter and stronger, helping the truck deliver the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup, up to 23 mpg highway for Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown-area drivers. It also has class-leading towing capability of up to 12,000 pounds when equipped with the available 6.2L V-8.

Similarly, making the most of mass also enables the Silverado equipped with 4.3L V-6 to tow up to 7,600 pounds, the highest for any standard V-6 in the segment, with EPA highway fuel economy of up to 24 mpg.

“For our customers, the use of lightweight materials like ultra-high-strength steel and aluminum means improves capability and efficiency for our customers, which is a win-win for everyone,” said John Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick.
