Kids Turn to OnStar for News on Santa’s Journey

Latest status just a Blue Button push away for area families

OnStar-SantaHat-with-NTS-Logo

Starting on Christmas Eve, Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown-area families traveling in General Motors’ vehicles with OnStar services will be able to learn Santa’s whereabouts by simply pressing the blue OnStar button in the U.S., Canada and now in Mexico.

For the fifth consecutive year, OnStar is providing the service through collaboration with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, “Track Santa” program.

From 7 a.m. on December 24 until 5 a.m. on December 25, anyone with an active OnStar subscription can request a “Santa Update,” which an OnStar advisor will provide based on NORAD information.

“The ‘Santa Seeker’ really helps spread holiday cheer,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The OnStar advisors put on their Santa hats and elf ears and wholeheartedly take advantage of the opportunity to spread such joy to the children in Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown and more.”

So how does OnStar keep up with the high volume of inquiries from these curious little callers?

While their first priority is the safety and security of their subscribers, they make adjustments in staff so that they are able to respond to the Santa calls as well as their day-to-day calls for assistance.

“For nearly 60 years, NORAD has employed the same military technology used every day for Homeland Defense mission to also track Santa during his Yuletide journey,” said Stacey Knott, NORAD Tracks Santa program manager. “We use our military satellites, radars, fighter jets and Santa Cams to tell the world Santa’s location every Christmas Eve.”

Individuals without OnStar technology can also follow Santa’s progress via the NORAD Tracks Santa website, Facebook page Twitter hashtag #NoradSanta or by calling the hotline at 1-877-HI-NORAD.

Fear of Night Driving? 2014 Chevrolet Impala Can Help

Study shows high-intensity discharge headlamps can help Corry-area drivers stop sooner

ChevroletImpalaHeadlamps02.jpg

With Daylight Saving Time ending this Sunday, many Corry, Warren and Erie-area residents will drive in the dark more often. For those uneasy with night driving, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala can help brighten the task.

The enhanced visibility provided by Impala’s headlamps can help Corry, Warren and Erie-area drivers avoid crashes after dark, the riskiest time of day. According to a study cited by the Federal Highway Administration, the risk of a fatality at night among drivers not impaired by alcohol is more than two times higher than in daytime due to less visibility.

According to a 2009 study conducted by the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, high-intensity discharge, or HID, headlamps like those on the new Impala can help drivers see objects in the road sooner than other types of headlamps, allowing for greater stopping distance.

Buick and Crotty Chevrolet Buick Celebrate Four Decades of Regal

The addition of the Regal nameplate to the Buick family goes back more than 40 years, but even today, the Regal’s heritage as a sporty, mid-size luxury vehicle is strong as ever in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

1973BuickCenturyRegalCoupe-medium

Introduced in 1973, the Century Regal, as it was originally called, served as an upmarket model in the Century line and one of GM’s first “personal luxury” cars. Designed with sporty suspension characteristics and luxuries aimed primarily at the driver, the ‘73 Regal coupe sold   91,557 units helping Buick surpass its 1955 all-time sales record.

Launched with a standard 350 cu. in. V-8 engine, the Regal would soon carve a niche as a powertrain innovator. Among one of the first to react to the initial Arab oil embargo, the 1975 Buick Regal was the only mid-size vehicle in the United States to forego a standard V-8 engine in favor of a V-6.

“For the past 40 years, the Regal has been a huge part of the American culture,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Corry, Erie and Warren-area drivers are going to love the 2014 model, which delivers Buick’s signature quiet and well-crafted luxury in a new and unexpected package.”

Just a few years later, beginning with the 1978 Regal, Buick would lead a vanguard on turbocharging for better fuel economy. This expertise would later be used in creating Regals that would be recognized as some of the most powerful and significant cars of the 1980s.

Chevrolet’s and Buick’s Unlocks RemoteLink for Microsoft Windows Phones

Becomes only OEM to offer remote services across all four smartphone platforms for Corry residents

Onstar Remote Link

When the OnStar RemoteLink Mobile App launched, it was the first app from an automaker to offer Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY-area drivers remote access to their vehicle. Now RemoteLink can claim the distinction of being the first remote telemetry app from an automaker to work on all four primary smartphone platforms – iPhone, Android, Blackberry and now Microsoft Windows phones.

OnStar has expanded the availability of RemoteLink so that GM drivers with select Microsoft Windows phones can start experiencing remote vehicle connectivity. The app is available on both Windows Phone 7 and 8 operating systems, and will be accessible in the Windows Phone Store on mobile devices.

“The RemoteLink app has been available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry smartphones for a while now,” said Robert Crotty, VP of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “But OnStar heard from many subscribers asking for a Windows app.”

Today, the RemoteLink Mobile App, which is available for nearly all of Crotty Chevrolet Buick’s GM models, has been downloaded more than 1.7 million times. The most common use of the app is checking vehicle data such as oil life, tire pressure and fuel level. These requests get made nearly 600,000 times every month.

RemoteLink for Windows, like the Blackberry version, was written using HTML5 technology. HTML5 is a language for structuring and writing content for the web that is gaining momentum in the mobile app space.

The app will be available for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY-area OnStar subscribers and will support four language options, including English and Spanish.

This expansion comes on the heels of the announcement that RemoteLink’s key-fob based features – remote start, lock, unlock and horn and lights activation – would be standard for five years on all new GM vehicles. This launch means that Corry, Erie, Warrne and Jamestown, NY-area GM drivers with select Windows phones will be able to access RemoteLink key-fob features as well. The five years of standard remote key-fob services does not include access to additional OnStar services.

RemoteLink connects to a driver’s vehicle in a secure fashion, requiring a username and password to log in and a four digit PIN to make a remote vehicle command.

OnStar subscribers can download the application and visit onstar.com to enable remote commands.

Top 10 Reasons Why Silverado is Summer’s Perfect Pickup for Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown, NY Drivers

2014-Chevrolet-Silverado-LTZ-071-medium

The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado – now available at Crotty Chevrolet Buick – has been re-engineered to be stronger, smarter and more capable, making it the perfect pickup for hitting the road this summer. Crotty Chevrolet and Chevrolet knows that Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown, NY-area drivers taking road trips need more than just extra trunk space, which is why Silverado offers something for all passengers.

“The 2014 Silverado has everything local families’ need to have a wonderful summer vacation,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Its combination of efficiency and capability will help drivers save money and enjoy conveniences that enhance the overall functionality of the vehicle mile after mile.”

From hood to hitch, here are the top 10 reasons the Silverado is well equipped and capable to exceed Corry, Warren, Erie and Jamestown, NY-area drivers’ expectations on the roadways this summer:

  1. No need to stop for directions. Drivers can stay on course with Chevrolet MyLink and OnStar. Simply choose a destination and an OnStar advisor will send turn-by-turn directions directly to the in-dash touch screen.
  2. Ditch the mixed CD. Energize your ride with a road-worthy playlist. The MyLink system includes Bluetooth for phone streaming and enough USB ports and outlets to support multiple devices, making it easier to enjoy your music on the road.
  3. Forget the days of the dead cell phone. Stay charged up with a new 110-volt outlet and cord management system which enables you to leave your cell phone charger plugged in for easy access when it’s needed and concealed when it’s not.
  4. Store snacks and water for the road. The front door panels have integrated pockets perfect for snacks, drink bottles, or travel guides. The rear panels also have room for a typical 20-ounce bottle.
  5. Spend less time stopping for gas. The redesigned 2014 Silverado is aerodynamically enhanced to reduce drag, giving drivers greater fuel efficiency on the highway.
  6. Stretch out. Passengers can enjoy plenty of legroom, even in the backseat. Thanks to new sculpted seatbacks, rear seat passengers enjoy about two inches more legroom and the ease of entering and exiting through wider rear crew cab doors.
  7. Sleep it off. Passengers can enjoy a quiet nap thanks to Silverado’s new inlaid doors. This new design, combined with triple door seals, helps to reduce wind noise and turbulence, quieting the interior of the cab.
  8. Secure travel necessities. With Silverado’s new Smart Pickup Box and four built-in cargo tie-down provisions, your items remain safe and secure on the road. The new CornerStep bumper and handholds also provide easier access to climb in the box for loading and unloading.
  9. Tow your boat, camper, trailer, and more. Silverado’s 5.3 L EcoTec3 V-8 and stronger chassis provide the durable towing capability, up to 11,500 pounds, that you need for hauling on long road trips.
  10. Be on the safe side. Travel companions stay safe with Silverado’s two available active safety technologies – forward collision alert and lane departure warning. These features, new to Silverado, warn you when you’re at risk of colliding with another vehicle or leaving the lane.
