OnStar Offers Corry-Area Buick Owners Affordable In-Car 4G LTE Connectivity

Buick LaCrosse

In-Car Wi-Fi data plans start at $5 a month

When select 2015 Buick LaCrosse models arrive at Crotty Chevrolet Buick later this year, they’ll be some of the first BUICK models to be offered with OnStar’s affordable in-car 4G LTE connectivity.

“Consumers are increasingly purchasing tablets and other devices that rely solely upon Wi-Fi to connect with the outside world,” said Shane Crotty from Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “By offering a 4G LTE connection and a Wi-Fi hot-spot within most 2015 models, Buick and OnStar are giving customers a bridge to the World Wide Web and beyond.”

The industry’s broadest deployment of 4G LTE connectivity technology will enable owners of these vehicles to explore new features like a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capable of pairing up to seven devices, including properly equipped laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, or video game consoles.

2015 Buick models equipped with OnStar’s 4G LTE hardware will be bundled with three months or 3 gigabytes of complimentary data usage. After that, users will be able to choose from a wide array of affordable data plans to fit both their need and budget. Plans start at $5 for 200 megabytes of data monthly, enough to stream more than 6.5 hours of music or send more than 10,000 emails without attachments. Monthly plans span up to 50 gigabytes of data, which costs $50 a month.

Additionally, OnStar allows customers to purchase one-time data packages in two different sizes, or even bundle their in-car 4G LTE subscription with an existing AT&T Mobile Share Plan.

OnStar’s 4G LTE hardware will ultimately be available on four 2015 Buick models by the end of 2014, including the 2015 Regal, the 2015 Verano and the 2015 Buick Enclave.

Kids Turn to OnStar for News on Santa’s Journey

Latest status just a Blue Button push away for area families

OnStar-SantaHat-with-NTS-Logo

Starting on Christmas Eve, Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown-area families traveling in General Motors’ vehicles with OnStar services will be able to learn Santa’s whereabouts by simply pressing the blue OnStar button in the U.S., Canada and now in Mexico.

For the fifth consecutive year, OnStar is providing the service through collaboration with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, “Track Santa” program.

From 7 a.m. on December 24 until 5 a.m. on December 25, anyone with an active OnStar subscription can request a “Santa Update,” which an OnStar advisor will provide based on NORAD information.

“The ‘Santa Seeker’ really helps spread holiday cheer,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The OnStar advisors put on their Santa hats and elf ears and wholeheartedly take advantage of the opportunity to spread such joy to the children in Corry, Warren, Erie, and Jamestown and more.”

So how does OnStar keep up with the high volume of inquiries from these curious little callers?

While their first priority is the safety and security of their subscribers, they make adjustments in staff so that they are able to respond to the Santa calls as well as their day-to-day calls for assistance.

“For nearly 60 years, NORAD has employed the same military technology used every day for Homeland Defense mission to also track Santa during his Yuletide journey,” said Stacey Knott, NORAD Tracks Santa program manager. “We use our military satellites, radars, fighter jets and Santa Cams to tell the world Santa’s location every Christmas Eve.”

Individuals without OnStar technology can also follow Santa’s progress via the NORAD Tracks Santa website, Facebook page Twitter hashtag #NoradSanta or by calling the hotline at 1-877-HI-NORAD.

Shopping Encore: Top Tips for Holiday Shopping Season

Crotty Chevrolet Buick teams with Buick, SheFinds Media and Edmunds.com to offer advice

Buick Encore

Whether hitting the stores before dawn on Black Friday or scrambling to find that final gift on December 24, the Buick Encore offers Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea drivers a balance of parcel-packing efficiency and safe navigation of the ins-and-outs of mall parking spaces.

With the holiday shopping season starting earlier than ever, Buick and Crotty Chevrolet Buick are collaborating with Michelle Madhok, shopping expert and founder of shefinds.com; and Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at Edmunds.com and auto expert, to help consumers conquer Black Friday, and the rest of the shopping season.

“Traditionally, Black Friday is the ultimate shopping day of the year,” said Madhok. “Those who want to save money and have a positive experience should carefully think through the day and keep some simple tips in mind.”

These tips include:

  • Aim for the big-ticket items that are highly discounted, such as electronics
  • Pass on the pricey warranty or home installation package
  • Make a list and stay focused, prioritizing the most expensive items first
  • Check specialty sites that report on all the Black Friday sales – such as www.blackfriday.com and www.bfads.net.
  • Don’t waste precious shopping time circling or waiting for a choice parking spot near the mall entrance. Instead, park in aisles equidistant to several mall entrances.

Part of the battle, for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea shoppers, occurs even before the first dollar is even spent. Crowded, dark parking lots offer their own set of challenges. Krebs offers some safety tips before ever reaching the mall entrance.

“Bigger isn’t always better,” Krebs said. “Compact cars and SUVs, such as the Buick Encore, have a surprising amount of interior room and are agile and easier to park. The Encore’s petite dimensions pay dividends when it’s time to squeeze into undersized parking spaces.”

In addition, Krebs says Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestownarea consumers should consider holiday shopping safety:

  • Use a cargo cover when possible to keep packages out of view
  • Leverage backup cameras and mirrors in crowded parking lots
  • Use hands-free devices to avoid distraction
  • Use a driver remote door unlock, especially if alone in a dark parking lot

“The Encore was made to give our customers the storage space they need, to accommodate the ins and outs of their everyday lives,” said John Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Holiday shopping is just another facet of that, and the Encore is the perfect companion for a safe and successful holiday season.”

Buick and Crotty Chevrolet Buick Celebrate Four Decades of Regal

The addition of the Regal nameplate to the Buick family goes back more than 40 years, but even today, the Regal’s heritage as a sporty, mid-size luxury vehicle is strong as ever in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

1973BuickCenturyRegalCoupe-medium

Introduced in 1973, the Century Regal, as it was originally called, served as an upmarket model in the Century line and one of GM’s first “personal luxury” cars. Designed with sporty suspension characteristics and luxuries aimed primarily at the driver, the ‘73 Regal coupe sold   91,557 units helping Buick surpass its 1955 all-time sales record.

Launched with a standard 350 cu. in. V-8 engine, the Regal would soon carve a niche as a powertrain innovator. Among one of the first to react to the initial Arab oil embargo, the 1975 Buick Regal was the only mid-size vehicle in the United States to forego a standard V-8 engine in favor of a V-6.

“For the past 40 years, the Regal has been a huge part of the American culture,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Corry, Erie and Warren-area drivers are going to love the 2014 model, which delivers Buick’s signature quiet and well-crafted luxury in a new and unexpected package.”

Just a few years later, beginning with the 1978 Regal, Buick would lead a vanguard on turbocharging for better fuel economy. This expertise would later be used in creating Regals that would be recognized as some of the most powerful and significant cars of the 1980s.

2014 Buick Lineup Offers Active Safety Suite

Advanced safety technologies available on all five Buick models

060613BuickSafetySuite-medium

Every 2014 Buick model – Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore and Enclave – will be offered with a suite of available active safety systems that watch the front, side and rear of the vehicle to help prevent crashes.

Buick will be the only brand in the industry to offer Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Warning, and a Rear Vision Camera on every vehicle.

Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are a pair of technologies that use a single forward-looking camera to read traffic and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignaled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Warning use radar to watch spots the driver may not see – and provide visible and audible warnings to help prevent collisions.

When the vehicle is in reverse and the Rear Vision Camera is active, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will flash a red icon and directional arrow if another vehicle is approaching from either side, which is especially useful backing out of a tight driveway or parking space in a busy lot.

Chevrolet and Buick Models Get Two Years of Included Maintenance at Crotty Chevrolet Buick

New coverage included for all lessees and purchasers of 2014 model year vehicles

gm-certified-service-082-medium

Every 2014 Chevrolet and Buick model offered by Crotty Chevrolet Buick will be covered by a new maintenance program that includes certain scheduled maintenance services for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

For most 2014 vehicles, Crotty Chevrolet Buick will complete an oil and filter change, four-wheel tire rotation, and conduct a 27-point vehicle inspection for owners under this program in accordance with their vehicle Owner’s Manual maintenance schedule and oil life monitoring system.

“We have award-winning products filling our showroom and top-rated customer service,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Adding two years of scheduled maintenance for every vehicle shows we are dedicated to the best ownership experience possible.”

Some alternative-fuel vehicles do not include oil changes, and some performance vehicles and certain trucks do not include tire rotations when that service is not recommended. The program covers up to four service visits in the 24-month period, and is fully transferrable to subsequent owners.

2013 Encore Receives IIHS, NHTSA Safety Accolades

2013-Buick-Encore-020-medium

All five models in luxury brand’s showroom now share IIHS Top Safety Pick designation

The 2013 Encore luxury small crossover brings a smaller footprint and high efficiency to the Buick showroom, but the brand’s newest model maintains the commitment to safety, joining all other current Buicks as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all-wheel drive also received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

With every model sharing the IIHS designation, Buick is one of just a few brands with a full line of 2013 Top Safety Picks. The Verano, Regal, LaCrosse and Enclave all have a NHTSA 5-star overall rating.

The IIHS tests vehicles to determine occupant protection in front, side, and rollover crashes, and specifically tests seats and head restraints for neck protection in rear impact crashes. To earn a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must be rated “good” in all four tests.

Buick Turns 110: M18 Hellcat Remembered on V-E Day

‘Hot rod of World War II’ a key piece of ‘Arsenal of Democracy’

Buick production lines have been rolling for 110 consecutive years but for a short period during World War II, the vehicles produced looked decidedly different. In February of 1942, the last civilian car left a Buick facility before full attention was placed on engineering and producing aircraft engines, ammunition and the M18 tank destroyer, better known as the Hellcat.

The M18 originated in the design studio of Harley Earl, whose team also worked extensively on early camouflage paint. Even the Hellcat logo on the M18’s front corner and patches worn by its crew was designed by Earl’s staff. Flanked by the words “Seek, Strike, Destroy,” it depicts a wildcat biting down on crushed treads, signifying the Hellcat’s mission of targeting enemy tanks.

Bill Gross takes an M18 for a test drive. As a volunteer for the Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan, Gross restored one of the 2,507 Hellcats produced by Buick in the 1940s

Buick engineers brought the Hellcat to life from the design team’s sketches and developed an innovative torsion bar suspension that provided a steady ride. Though it weighed about 20 tons – the same as almost nine modern day Buick Enclaves – the Hellcat was designed to be one of fastest tanks on the battlefield and was capable of traveling upwards of 60 mph. Its power came from a nine-cylinder, 450-horsepower radial-type aircraft engine paired with a three-speed Hydramatic transmission.

The M18 Hellcat was the fastest tank in World War II, thanks in part to a three-speed automatic transmission that was ahead of its time. General Motors introduced the first hydraulic fluid-operated automatic transmission in a production car just a few years prior, in 1940.

“The Hellcat was considered the hot rod of World War II,” said Bill Gross, a historian who restored an M18 now on display at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Mich. “To give perspective, most German tanks of the day were capable of just 20 mph and even today’s M1 Abrams tank is outpaced by the Hellcat.”
